The World Bank will provide practical assistance in preparing a Strategy to attract foreign direct investment to the regions of Uzbekistan until 2040

TASHKENT, October 1. /“Dunyo” IA/. Currently, 30 investment projects worth $5 billion have been launched in Uzbekistan aimed at modernizing infrastructure, energy, agriculture, housing and communal services, supporting entrepreneurship, and improving the education and healthcare systems, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.


This was discussed at the meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister–Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Jamshid Khodjayev and World Bank Vice President Anna Bjerde.

The parties discussed the current state and prospects for deepening cooperation.

A high assessment was given to the results achieved within the framework of investment cooperation over 30 years. During this time, 28 projects have been implemented aimed at reforming agriculture, modernizing healthcare and education, improving the financial and transport sectors, and road construction. An agreement was also reached to accelerate the development of new projects aimed at improving urban infrastructure and supporting the budget.

The prospect of enhancing the consulting and technical assistance of banking specialists in the implementation of large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan was considered. An agreement was reached on attracting foreign direct investment to the regions of Uzbekistan until 2040, developing the healthcare sector and exports, as well as developing an industrial strategy based on market principles aimed at ensuring industrially balanced development in all regions of the country.

The parties also discussed the issue of WB experts’ support for non-financial activities of the Economic Empowerment Fund for Uzbekistan, created jointly with the Government of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Development Bank. The leadership of the World Bank declared its readiness to provide the necessary assistance in the activities of the fund.
