The President of Uzbekistan holds talks with the President of the European Council in Cholpon Ata

TASHKENT, June 2. /“Dunyo” IA/. Upon arrival in the city of Cholpon Ata, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the President of the European Council Charles Michel, as part of the program of the Second Summit “Central Asia – European Union”, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

According to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan, a wide range of issues of further deepening multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Europe and developing practical interaction in a regional format was considered.

Sincerely congratulating the Head of State on the results of the constitutional referendum, President of the European Council Charles Michel expressed full support for the ongoing program of irreversible democratic changes and economic reforms in New Uzbekistan and wished successful conduction of the upcoming important political events.

The parties noted with particular satisfaction the high dynamics of bilateral contacts and exchanges in accordance with the agreements of the high-level meeting held in Tashkent in October 2022.

During this period, the First Conference on Regional Connectivity, the following Civil Society Forum, and the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development were fruitfully held in Uzbekistan.

The trade turnover of Uzbekistan with the EU countries has grown by 70 percent since the beginning of this year. The portfolio of investment projects with the participation of leading European companies in the high-tech sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan has exceeded 20 billion euros.

The leaders of Uzbekistan and the EU dwelled separately on the issues of increasing the volume and diversification of bilateral trade, extending the GSP+ preferential trade regime, developing efficient transport routes, primarily the Trans-Caspian transit corridor, implementing joint programs and projects in green energy, innovation and high technology, digitalization, ecology, education, tourism, and other areas.

Views were exchanged on the current issues of the regional agenda. The importance of continuing consultations and providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan was emphasized.
